electionz.com and the 2010 New Zealand Local Government Elections

For the 2010 New Zealand Local Government Elections, we will be processing votes on behalf of 35 Territorial Local Authorities (TLAs), involving 1.3 million voters.

With an average of 5 elections per TLA, we will be processing votes for approximately 175 elections concurrently, including 14 District Health Boards and 8 Regional Councils. We are expecting 600,000 voting papers to be returned to us for processing.

Important dates and events

  • Friday, 20th August - nominations close
  • Friday, 17th September - voting opens (delivery of voting papers commences)
  • Wednesday, 6th October - last chance to mail voting papers to be received by us for counting in time
  • Saturday, 9th October - voting closes at 12 noon
  • Saturday, 9th October - from 3pm onwards, progress results will start to become available per Council, as reconciliations and Quality Assurance checks are completed
  • Sunday, 10th October - prelimiinary results are announced throughout the day as we receive the last ordinary voting papers that were given directly to Councils prior to the close of voting
  • Monday, 11th October - official results are released throughout the week as special votes are confirmed
